Product Details

These are small terrariums, perfect for desks or window ledges. Planted with the colourful Fittonia, these species of plants just love a moist environment, making them the number one choice for terrariums.

Carefully crafted by hand, a lot of care and attention has gone into the making of these due to the extremely high standards we set and expect at Aqua Essentials.

There are two sizes of terrariums available:

  • Chisai 小さい (small)
  • Man'nata 真ん中 (medium)

Chisai (pronounced Chii_sai) is the smaller of the terrariums standing 13cm tall with a 6cm base. This particular size contains two contrasting Fittonia which look delightful together. They’re set amongst a bed of moss.

If you fancy going up a size, try Man'nata (pronounced Man_nata) and this is a touch larger at 18cm tall and 7cm at the base. This model has 3 complimentary coloured Fittonia which work very well together and just like Chisai, are planted amongst a bed of moss.

Aquascapers, who love designing beautiful underwater landscapes, would really enjoy looking after a terrarium because the two hobbies are so similar. Both require a good eye for design and careful attention to detail, making it easy for aquascapers to transfer their skills to terrariums. They already know how to take care of plants and create balanced ecosystems, so managing the humidity, light, and soil in a terrarium would come naturally to them.

Terrariums also offer a fun, space-saving way to expand their hobby. Unlike aquascaping, which can need a lot of space and equipment, terrariums can be made in small containers that fit anywhere. Taking care of a terrarium is just as relaxing and rewarding, providing a sense of calm and accomplishment. Plus, it gives aquascapers a chance to learn more about land plants and sustainable gardening, adding a new dimension to their love of nature and design.

Closed terrariums require minimal maintenance, forming a self-sustaining ecosystem with a substrate layer for nutrients and drainage, topped off with moss. We include a care card with every order to ensure your terrarium remains healthy.

We ship the terrariums carefully packed with slightly moist filter wool. You'll need to carefully remove this upon arrival. The plants and moss may appear compressed but will quickly recover so don't worry!

A few notes:

  • Each terrarium is sent with a care card so you know how to look after it. It also answers the most common questions so you can relax.
  • Our terrariums undergo a 14 day incubation period to ensure the plants and mosses are well-settled and acclimated. The arrangement may vary slightly from the photos but rest assured they always maintain a natural appearance.
  • These terrariums are made with rootless cuttings which will grow and propagate in your terrarium. If the plant comes loose, gently push it back into place (it won't harm it). If your plant perishes within 3 weeks of arrival, send us a message and we will replace the plant for free (it may be a different species to the one you received originally).
